Hi Mr. Witkowicz

I’m sure you get tons of email regarding the status of USL Live for next season, but I just relocated from Portland to Shanghai China, and I’m now very interested in USL Live for the 2009 season. Missing an occasional away game didn’t used to bother me, but now I can’t go to the home games!

What is the current status of USL Live for next year? Will you be up and running for the 2009 season? My Timbers games depend on you!

Hi Mark -

Greetings from halfway across the world! Just to give you a little background… USL Live was operated by PlayOn! – a division of Turner Broadcasting. The division opened in 2007, however, Turner Broadcasting made the decision during this past season to close their PlayOn! division effective at the end of the 2008 campaign. PlayOn! was created as sort of a testing grounds for their technology and we were brought on board for this purpose. Basically, it left us in open water trying to find a replacement service, which we are in the final stages of doing. I cannot confirm all preseason matches will be covered due to the turnaround time but regular season games are on.

We’ll most likely keep the same domain name as we’ve built a brand with USL Live. I’ll let you know what we come up with. Any questions let me know.

Rant: Fucking Timbers. They’re playing like they’re two goals up when they’re two goals down.

Rave: little piggy Give-away that gave the Army ammunition to pelt the Puerto Rico Goalkeeper who shook his nuts at us.

Rant: Fucking Timbers.

Rave: Bringing tourists into the Army who had fun despite the look of deep sadness on the faces of people around us (including me)

Rant: Fucking guy behind me who decided that IN MY BEER was the appropriate place to deposit his peanut shells. Yes they were under my seat, but fuckin think! I have bruises on my kneecaps after games because of the seats in the row in front of me. We put the beer in the safest possible place.

FUCK!

Rave: nah, I’m out.

Rant: Fucking Timbers.

admission: yeah… I’ll be there on Tuesday.

Belated independence day huzzah

I had a pretty good independence day, including leading a bike tour for some PDX noobs, giving directions to I5 to a folksy father and son team from small town Oklahoma, and preceded by a great friendly match between the Timbers and a Monarcas De Morelia, a vastly superior team. Friendlies are great because they bring out fans that haven’t been to Timbers games, and some of them come back and join the TA or become regular fans.

So, belatedly, and keeping with the two non-food themes of this website, here are two renditions of our whacky national anthem:

one by the only person who could possibly pull an early 80s funk version (Mr. Marvin Gaye)

And, well, me and about 2000 other people.

“As a dutiful employee of the city of Gresham, I can attest that most of my frost-tipped brethren have the slickest neon green sleds complete with spoilers and tailpipes with the tokyo drift effect built in. I’m unsure about what happens when the grid shifts to a grand prix format (after the boys get off 1-84 at the lloyd center), but i’ll vouch that these kings of the salt flat can get downtown from troutdale in about 5 minutes…….”

Forgive me folks, this is barely food related, and I doubt any of the frequent visitors to this site will care a lick about this post, but…

I swore off the NBA after the Suns clearly demonstrated that the NBA was not only fixed, but fixed by idiots. Yet, here I am, on my day off, waiting for the NBA draft to start. I’m about to lose a $5 bet with a dear friend, but she doesn’t read this, so perhaps I can save my scant dollars until she presses the issue.
